There is some good news in today's report. The scientists point out that the costs of many key, low-carbon technologies: solar power, wind turbines, and batteries have fallen dramatically in just the last decade.
And they say, we can all take action on climate: eating a bit less meat, and walking and cycling a bit more will cut our emissions and make us healthier, they say.
But for many observers, the really worrying aspect of today's report is the reliance it places on new technologies to suck carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The scientists say these will be needed to keep temperatures down in virtually all the scenarios they looked at.
The problem is these technologies are at a very early stage of development and are still very expensive. Given the urgency of the challenge the report says we face, that is not encouraging.

1. Which key, low-carbon technologies have dropped dramatically in cost over the last decade?
The costs of solar power, wind turbines, and batteries have fallen dramatically in just the last decade.
2. What examples of action people can take to help the climate are mentioned in the report?
The report says we can all eat a bit less meat, and walk and cycle a bit more.
3. What new technologies are needed to keep temperatures down?
New technologies to suck carbon dioxide from the atmosphere are needed to keep temperatures down in virtually all the scenarios scientists looked at.
4. What is the problem with these new carbon dioxide sucking technologies?
The problem is these technologies are at a very early stage of development and are still very expensive.
